Day 2: Madrid – Toledo – Seville – Écija

After the breakfast served at the hotel, we depart for Seville, the capital of the province of Seville. Guests who wish may optionally join the spectacular Toledo Tour organized along the way (70 Euro). Located approximately 70 kilometers from Madrid, Toledo is a UNESCO-protected historic city that has hosted diverse cultures of the Iberian Peninsula and bears traces of Roman, Visigothic, Muslim, and Christian civilizations. Renowned for its magnificent medieval architecture and cultural heritage, this open-air museum tour will take us through narrow historic streets where we will see the Cathedral of Toledo (exterior view), Spain's oldest cathedral, churches converted from former Andalusian mosques, and countless other wonders. Our next stop is Seville, the capital of Andalusia. Seville is a city famous for its historical and cultural richness in the Andalusia region of Spain. During our city tour along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, we will first visit Maria Luisa Park and Plaza America, which includes Plaza de Espana. We will also see the Tomb of Christopher Columbus and the Seville Cathedral (exterior view), the third largest cathedral in the world. Right next to the cathedral stands the Giralda Minaret, the last remaining part of the mosque upon which the cathedral was built, commemorating the Andalusian Umayyad Caliphate. Other sights include the Alcazar Palace (exterior view), the royal residence of the Castilian kings. Afterward, passing through the Archives of the Indies, where records of all sea voyages to the Americas up to the 19th century are kept, we will reach the old narrow streets of the Santa Cruz neighborhood, known as "old" Seville. At the end of our walk, after viewing the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower)—formerly a tobacco factory and now the center of the university campus and currently a maritime museum—we will depart for Ecija. Upon arrival, our city tour begins. Écija is a historic city located in southern Spain, within the Andalusia region and under the jurisdiction of the province of Seville. Often referred to as the "Peacock of Andalusia" or the "City of Towers," Écija is renowned for its rich Baroque architecture and magnificent historical buildings. Known in Roman times as "Astigi," it was one of the important centers of the Hispania Ulterior province. The city also became a significant cultural and economic hub during the Andalusian Umayyad period. Today, walking through the streets of Écija, one can feel a historic atmosphere filled with elegant palaces, churches, and tall bell towers dating back to the Baroque era. Particularly notable are the Santa María and San Juan churches, dating from the 18th century, which are among the finest examples of Baroque art. For travelers interested in history, art, and traditional Andalusian architecture, Écija is like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. While strolling through the city's narrow streets, traces from both the Roman and Islamic periods can still be found. After our tour, we transfer to our hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
